Group Tweet lets you send private Twitter messages to specific groups of friends.
CoTweet is another Twitter service geared towards businesses.
Twitalyzer evaluates the activity of any Twitter user and report on relative influence, signal-to-noise ratio, generosity, velocity, clout, and other useful measures of success in social media.
Tweetdeck is a desktop client I recommend for using Twitter from your computer.
Additional Social Media tools
Delicious is a social bookmarking program for sharing interesting sites from around the Web. Make sure to use the description available to explain why you’ve chosen to share the link. Include keywords!
FriendFeed will create one feed of all your social media activity. This is also a great research tool if you use the “Advanced Search” options.
Backtype will help you to keep track of your comments across many social media sites (especially blogs) and is also useful as a research tool to determine what people are saying about specific issues.
Google Reader is my favorite RSS reader. It’s easy to set up and useful for research as well as sharing posts and keeping up to date on multiple blogs in one place.
